For me, painting means: expressing myself in a way that gives me much satisfaction and peace. Since my close encounter with cancer, marks and prints are central to my work.
My paintings express the way events and experiences, change us and our environment. Challenges and setbacks are inherent to life, but beauty can still be found, even in unuasual places. I love to capture the nature of that beauty, but also its imperfections, its irregularities and its scars.
To transform an empty canvas so that it reflects my experiences and my ideas, that is my big challenge. Impressions are captured by the movements of my painting equipment, such as brushes and palette knives, when they touch my canvas. The textures and colors used also determine my work. I get a lot of satisfaction from experimenting with different media in my studio.
